The notebook of Tlemcen
Look at the valley from another angle.
Tlemcen, a former capital of the Zianides, combines large mosques, ramparts and palaces with a wooded mountain setting. The Great Mosque, Sidi Boumediene and Mansourah offer complementary readings of its medieval history. Mechour asks to distinguish the ancient remains of the reconstructed palace, before prolonging the discovery in the national park.

Great Mosque of Tlemcen, Set of Sidi Boumediene and Palace of Mechour give the most telling landmarks of Tlemcen. Together, they form a destination where urban life, heritage, forests and mountain reliefs meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 4 days, it is better to balance the visits and the travel times. Also to be anticipated: editorial perimeter limited to Tlemcen and its park; Moroccan border excluded and graded and variable road conditions depending on the sector and season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be verified step by step.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Heritage
Great Mosque of Tlemcen
Founded in the Almoravid era and later redesigned, the Great Mosque is a major milestone in the medieval architecture of Tlemcen. Zianid interventions have in particular completed its whole, whose reading requires a distinction between several historical phases.

Heritage
Ensemble de Sidi Boumediene
In El Eubbad, the Sidi Boumediene complex combines mosques, medrasa and mausoleum linked to Sufi master Abu Madyan. This set is an essential step in understanding the place of Sufism and religious teaching in the history of Tlemcen.

Heritage
Mechouar Palace
The Mechour was a residence of the zianid power in the centre of Tlemcen. The visible palace includes a reconstruction carried out in 2010-2011 on ancient remains: this restitution must be distinguished from the preserved historical elements of the citadel.

Heritage
Mosquée de Mansourah
The ruins of the Mansourah Mosque are located near Tlemcen, in the National Park's grip. The preserved structures make a large medieval religious ensemble legible and complete the discovery of monuments still in use in the city.
