To understand what Sanmenxia is, you have to look at the Sanmenxia Dam, Hangu Pass and Shanzhou Underground Habitations. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, riverscapes, heritage and countryside and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 2 to 5 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: variable influx depending on the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

The first large dam of the Yellow River has profoundly transformed hydrology and regional landscapes. A visit early in the day makes it possible to better observe local usages and the details of the place, while avoiding some of the groups and traffic.

Hangu Pass
This fortified pass controlled eastern access to the former Qin state. Distances, weather and access conditions must be checked before departure; water, adapted footwear and time limits remain useful outside the cities.
