Place indismissible
Bennington Battle Monument
The Bennington Battle Monument brings the memory of the battle to a striking verticality that dominates Bennington's public space. As the structure approaches, it gives a materialised reading of a founding moment without unnecessary discourse. The experience is mainly geometric: presence of stone, scale and location.
Place indismissible
Hildene
Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln's former summer residence, reveals the Vermont of the large late-season homes with a garden and a very built residential outlook. The site tells of how an influential family occupied and shaped the Manchester Center landscape. The volumes, more than a program, build history.
Nature and landscape
Mount Equinox
Mount Equinox stands above Manchester in the Taconics chain, with a more frank relief than many nearby hills. The panoramic road leads to wide views of the valleys, the Green Mountains and the undulations of southern Vermont. The experience is more like an altitude viewpoint than a demanding hike.
