Nature and landscape
Wharton State Forest
Wharton State Forest gives access to an American interior Pennsylvania in a southern version: pines, dark-colored rivers, sandy trails and extensive wetlands. Canoeing on the Batsto and walking along the paths make it an unexpected quiet spot on the edge of the big cities.
Culture and heritage
Batsto Village
Batsto Village tells the Pine Barrens about its wooden buildings, mill, workshops and the large house linked to the old steel industry. The restored village gives a concrete picture of the work of the marsh ore, charcoal and the daily life around the forge. The pine trees around the area recall that this industry depended as much on forest as on machinery.
川
Mullica River
The Mullica flows slowly through the Pine Barrens and accompanies the canoe walks. Its banks, still largely rural, offer a marked contrast with the urban proximity of the coast. It is an observational water, to follow without haste.
