Great Mosque of Kairouan
Founded with the city in the 7th century and rebuilt largely under the Aghlabides, the large mosque combines courtyard, square minaret and column hall. It is a major landmark for understanding the religious architecture of the Maghreb.

The Three Doors Mosque is distinguished by its carved facade, which emerged from a 9th century foundation. The minaret was later added; the monument offers a particularly precise reading of the architectural decor within the medina.

Outside the ramparts, this religious complex houses the tomb attributed to Abu Zamaa al-Balaoui, the companion of the Prophet. His courses and his decor belong to a remodeled ensemble, especially in the Mouradite era, which remains linked to local devotion.

Bassins des Aghlabides
Built in the 9th century, the basins were part of Kairouan's water supply system. This hydraulic complex complements religious monuments by showing the infrastructure needed to live a large city in a relatively dry plain.
