Biskra and the Zibans
Biskra is located at the meeting of the reliefs of the north and the oasis of the Zibans. Tolga highlights the cultivation of the date palm, while Sidi Okba maintains a high place in religious history. The gorge of El Kantara completes this route by a spectacular passage between mountainous landscapes and Saharan opening.
Sidi Okba Mosque, Tolga and its palm groves and Biskra, Ziban Gate, give the most telling landmarks of Biskra and Zibans. Together, they form a destination where urban life, desert areas, heritage and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 2 to 4 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: el Kantara is next to the Aurès: the wider perimeter is conservative; the map is crossed and the Saharan excursions are marked by a guide and authorizations to be checked. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Mosquée de Sidi Okba
In Sidi Okba, the sanctuary developed around the tomb assigned to Oqba Ibn Nafi. The ancient monument was remodelled several times and then integrated into a larger religious complex, which requires a distinction between the different phases of the place.

Tolga et ses palmeraies
Tolga belongs to the Zibans and is distinguished by the culture of the dates Deglet Nour. Palm groves give this stage a concrete agricultural interest, complementary to the monuments of Biskra: they are production spaces, not freely traversable public gardens.

Biskra is the main urban centre of the Zibans, in the transition between the mountainous north and the Sahara. Its cross-sectional situation illuminates the links between trade, Oasian agriculture and travel, before the separate stages of Tolga and Sidi Okba.
