概述
Durham and the Wear Valley
Spectacular cathedral town, castle, Wear meandering, living Beamish museum and northeast countryside.
Durham Cathedral, Durham Castle and Beamish Museum give the most telling landmarks of Durham and Wear Valley. Together, they form a destination where urban life, heritage, riverscapes and the countryside meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 2 to 4 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: relief around the cathedral and beamish takes time. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. Accessibility varies from site to site and deserves to be checked step by step.

Cathedral
Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral impresses with its carved Romanesque pillars, powerful nave and position above the Wear's meanderings. Approaching through the streets of the peninsula prepares the entrance: outside, the stone mass dominates the city; inside, the light reveals the vaults and geometric patterns.
Castle
Durham Castle
Durham Castle dominates the Wear loop alongside the cathedral, in an ensemble where the defensive position is immediately read. The courses, stairs and halls tell the story of the passage from a Norman fortress to a university college; the guided access gives meaning to the spaces that one would not cross freely.
Open-air museum
Beamish Museum
Beamish Museum reconstructs fragments of industrial northeast life: shopping streets, mine, farm, tramways and workshops animated by demonstrators. It is easy to spend several hours, as the buildings are visited as a inhabited village rather than as a suite of windows.
