To understand what Knoxville is, you have to look at Sunsphere, Ijams Nature Center and Museum of Appalachia. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, riverscapes and heritage and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

Sunsphere
The Sunsphere remains the most visible trace of the 1982 exhibition, with its high glass dome and its striking geometrical base. From its platform, the city centre takes another scale, between water, public buildings and memory of a major architectural event.
Culture and heritage
Ijams Nature Center
Ijams Nature Center protects banks, forests and steeples close to Knoxville, with a network of trails and activities on the water. It is a natural green counterpoint for the city: observe the slopes, lean on the bridges, then descend to the wetlands.

Museum of Appalachia
The Museum of Appalachia gathers historical buildings, objects, music and crafts in a rural setting north of Knoxville. To explore its structures and demonstrations is to enter into the gestures of the Appalachian South: framework, agriculture, narratives, and collective uses of a culture long oriented towards self-sufficiency.
