Rabat and Salé
On both sides of Bouregreg, Rabat and Salé gather several strata of Moroccan history. The Hassan Tower, the Oudayas and the Chellah are alongside the Mohammed V Mausoleum and a museum dedicated to modern art. The medrasa merinide of Salé completes this route, beyond the only monuments of the capital.
To understand what Rabat and Salé are, you have to look at the side of Tour Hassan, Kasbah of the Oudayas and Chellah. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, heritage, riverscapes and the coastline and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 3 to 4 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: to respect the restrictions specific to the areas of worship and to check the open parts of the monuments. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Hassan Tower
The Hassan Tower is the minaret of an Almohad mosque that remained unfinished after the death of the sovereign al-Mansour in 1199. The columns around the tower allow to measure the scale of the project, which is close to the mausoleum Mohammed V.

Kasbah des Oudayas
The Usdayas kasbah occupies a height at the mouth of the Bouregreg, opposite Salé. This citadel, which is next to the Medina, contributes to the UNESCO good of Rabat and illuminates the relationship between urban defence, river and ocean.

Chellah
The Chellah superimposed the remains of the ancient city of Sala and a medieval merinid necropolis. Its enclosures and religious buildings make up an archaeological site where several periods remain legible, south of the Bouregreg estuary.

Mausolée Mohammed V
In front of the Hassan Tower, the mausoleum houses the tombs of Mohammed V, Hassan II and Prince Moulay Abdallah. It is a place of royal memory and recollection, distinct from the neighbouring Almohad site.
