The University of Coimbra is first read by the strength of its internal courtyards, its stairs and its thresholds, which impose an almost scenographic route. The Velha Se of Coimbra almost resembles a Romanesque fortress, laid in the sloping alleys of the old town. Its dark interior, carved capitals and cloister create a collected atmosphere, very different from the large baroque spaces that we meet elsewhere in Portugal.

Conímbriga is revealed by the logic of the ancient tracks and the way in which the remains guide the steps between open spaces and covered areas.
