In the south of the Shott al-Jerid, Douz and Kebili anchor the discovery in the Nafzawa and its Os`an settlements. The large salt basin offers a very different landscape depending on water and season, while Douz marks the threshold of Saharan spaces. This area remains limited to towns, roads and the desert's authorized approaches.
To understand what Douz, Kebili and the Shott al-Jerid are, you must look to Douz, Shott al-Jerid, from the Nafzawa and Kebili. Seen from the entrances of Kebili and Douz, the Shout al-Jerid marks the boundary between the Os`an settlements and a vast salt depression. Its condition varies with water intakes; the surface must never be assimilated to stable terrain.
