Ancient Matmata and Troglodytic Habitat, Hotel Sidi Driss, Matmata and Tamezret give the most telling landmarks of Matmata, Tamezret and Toujane. Together, they form a destination where you can meet heritage, mountain reliefs, desert areas and the countryside, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.

For a stay of 2 to 3 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Ancienne Matmata et habitat troglodytique
The ancient Matmata is known for its houses organized around large courtyards dug in the ground. The rooms are excavated on their sides, sometimes connected to other courtyards; this architecture distinguishes the village from the new agglomeration.

Hôtel Sidi Driss, Matmata
This troglodytic home became a hotel and was used as an interior decoration at the Lars farm in Star Wars. It is located in the old Matmata; the outside views of the farm filmed elsewhere should not be attributed to it.

Tamezret
To the west of Matmata, the Amazigh village of Tamezret occupies the slopes of a hill. Its high-rise habitat offers a point of comparison with the buried houses of Matmata, in the same dry reliefs of the South Tunisian.

Toujane is an Amazigh village on the Matmata Mountains, distributed on both sides of a valley. Its configuration allows you to read directly the relationship between habitat, relief and circulation; it completes the stages of Matmata and Tamezret.
