Valley of Rocks, Dunster Castle and Tarr Steps give Exmoor's most telling landmarks. Together, they form a destination where natural spaces, the countryside and the coastline meet, with atmospheres that change over the stages rather than a single uniform decor.

For a stay of 2 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: narrow roads and plateau weather. A car is usually the easiest way to connect different sectors. However, some sites require more walking, elevation or preparation.

Coastal valley
Valley of Rocks
At the Valley of Rocks, the cliffs of Exmoor are carved in an amphitheater above the sea, with tormented rocks and goats sometimes visible on the slopes. The coastal path gives very open views, but interest also comes from the rapid changes between grass, dark stone and marine horizon.
Coastal villages
Lynton and Lynmouth
Lynton and Lynmouth form a duo with contrasts: two villages connected by the slope, linked by the look on the water and coastal architecture. The charm arises from the daily detail, from the facades to the docks, and the way the views follow each other. We cross them better by taking the rhythm of the coast.

Dunster Castle
Dunster Castle is a major landmark, structuring the village without visually dominating it. The exploration of the surroundings, then of the rooms, allows to understand the scope of the site beyond a single image. The subjects and views of the campaign change markedly according to the hour.

Tarr Steps
Tarr Steps connects nature and walking: water, old passages, no stone and surrounding relief form a short but very anchored experience. The bridge becomes a breathing step between more exposed terrain areas. The geography of the Exmoor is perceived without overbidding.
