General presentation
Niigata et île de Sado
Port of the Japanese Sea and large mining island, rural and artistic, between rice fields, cliffs and industrial memory.
To understand what Niigata and Sado Island are, you must look at Toki Messe, Sado Gold Mine and Shukunegi Village. These places give us a view of a territory marked by urban life, the coastline, island landscapes and heritage and allow us to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.

For a stay of 4 to 8 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: variable influx depending on the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Toki Messe
Toki Messe stands on the ancient docks of Niigata At the mouth of the Shinano. Its free observatory offers a very wide reading of the port, city and sea of Japan, useful before browsing the markets and old warehouses nearby.

Place indismissible
Mine d'or de Sado
The Sado mine has operated for almost four centuries in the reliefs of Aikawa. Accessible galleries, machines and huge cut of Dōyū no Warito tell different periods of operation, from manual work to 20th century industrial installations.

Village
Village de Shukunegi
Shukunegi tightens his marine carpenters' houses in a maze of alleyways near a small cove in the south of Sado. Several interiors visit and show how the marine economy has shaped a dense habitat, built with care despite the limited space.
