Abbey in ruins
Whitby Abbey
Above Whitby, the abbey's vented arches are cut off facing the North Sea, exposed to wind and rapid changes of light. The climb already gives part of the show, then the ruins open views of the port, the red roofs and the coast that fed the imagination of Dracula.

Robin Hood's Bay
Robin Hood's Bay descends to the sea through a lacise of steep alleyways, tight passages and fishing houses glued together. At low tide, the visit naturally slides towards the rocks and puddles of the shore; at high tide, the village seems to be picked up against the slope.
