General presentation
Gwangju and Damyang
A large memory town backed by Mudeungsan, extended by bamboo trees, pavilions and gardens in Damyang.
To understand what Gwangju and Dalyang are, you have to look at Mudeungsan National Park, 18-May National Cemetery and Juknokwon Bambousea. These places give you a view of a territory marked by the big city, heritage, forests and the countryside and allow you to move from emblematic sites to more intimate stages.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: variable influx depending on the season. The trip can be organised without a car if the drop point and local connections are selected in advance. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Nature park
Mudeungsan National Park
Mudeungsan rises directly east of Gwangju, with forest trails, rock temples and columns near the tops. Routes leave from several valleys and range from walk to long loops requiring good preparation.

Place indismissible
Cimetière national du 18-Mai
The 18-May National Cemetery pays tribute to the victims of the democratic uprising of Gwangju in 1980. Doors, memorials, museums and rows of graves build a sober path, essential to understand the contemporary political history of South Korea.

Place indismissible
Bambouseraie Juknokwon
Juknokwon spreads several paths in a dense bamboo grove in the centre of Damyang. The place is laid out and frequented, but the height of the stems, the wind and the filtered light create a real atmosphere, extended by the surrounding pavilions and gardens.
