General presentation
Gyeongju
Former capital of the Kingdom of Silla, where tumulus, temples, ponds and Buddhist remains are spread out in a very open urban landscape.
The discovery of Gyeongju is structured around Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Cave and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. The stay thus alternates between urban life, heritage and the countryside, which gives a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 6 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: variable influx depending on the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Temple
Bulguksa Temple
Bulguksa organizes its pavilions on stone terraces at the foot of Mount Toham. Stairs, pagodas and courtyards accurately express the Buddhist architecture of Silla, in a wooded setting particularly marked in spring and autumn.

Cave
Seokguram Cave
Seokguram houses under a stone dome a statue of the Buddha surrounded by reliefs, on the heights of Mount Toham. Access is by a forest path, and the observation remains protected behind a glass to preserve the fragile balance of the cave.

Palace
Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond
The Wolji Pond reflects rebuilt pavilions on the former secondary site of the Silla Palace. At the end of the day, the lighting reveals the roof lines and archaeological excavations, in a more intimate set than the large tumulus of the center.
