General presentation
Kagoshima, Sakurajima et Chiran
Active volcano, seigneurial garden and samurai district structure the south of Kyūshū between bay and reliefs.
The discovery of Kagoshima, Sakurajima and Chiran is structured around Sengan-en Garden, Yunohira Observatory and Chiran Samurai Quarter. The stay thus alternates between urban life, volcanic landscapes, heritage and natural spaces, giving a concrete picture of the destination beyond its only best known site.
See all
For a stay of 3 to 7 days, a quiet rhythm works well. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Garden
Jardin Sengan-en
Sengan-en was the coastal residence of the Shimazu clan, with the Sakurajima and the bay integrated as the background of the garden. House, historical industrial workshops and family collections show how feudal power, external exchanges and modernization met at the Kagoshima.

Place indismissible
Observatoire Yunohira
Yunohira is the highest public observation point on the slopes of the Sakurajima. It offers a direct view of volcanic reliefs and the bay, but the activity of the volcano requires to follow the warnings, restrictions and instructions relating to ash.

Place indismissible
Quartier de samouraïs de Chiran
Chiran preserves a street lined with stone walls, hedges and private gardens arranged in front of former residences of samurai. The small but very different compositions are visited on foot in a quiet village south of Kagoshima.
