General presentation
Tonghua et Ji'an
Forest valleys and capitals of Goguryeo are marking the Yalu in a border region full of history.
Wandu Mountain City, King Gwanggaeto's Stele and Ji'an Museum give the most telling landmarks of Tonghua and Ji'an. Together, they form a destination where urban life, riverscapes, heritage and mountain reliefs meet, with atmospheres that change over the course of the stages rather than just one uniform decor.
See all
For a stay of 2 to 5 days, it is better to balance visits and travel times. Also to be anticipated: conditions to be checked according to the season. A car is usually the easiest way to connect the different sectors. The main sites are generally easy to access.

Places worth visiting
A selection to start dreaming and organizing the stay — not an exhaustive list of everything there is to see.

Place indismissible
Cité de montagne de Wandu
Wandu keeps ramparts, doors and remains of a fortified capital of Goguryeo in the hills above Ji'an. The relief and foundations make the defensive organization clearer than a simple museum visit.

Place indismissible
Stèle du roi Gwanggaeto
King Gwanggaeto's great funeral stele carries a long inscription essential to the history of the kingdom of Goguryeo. It is protected by a pavilion and is visited with the nearby royal tombs.

Museum
Musée de Ji'an
The Ji'an Museum gathers funeral paintings, objects and models from the many Goguryeo sites in the valley. It gives the necessary chronological keys before the scattered fortresses and tumulus.
